Miss Battaglia Receives the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Award

St. James Principal Karen Battaglia holds the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Award, while St. James students hold several of the school's past Mission Awards.
Miss Karen Battaglia, principal of St. James the Greater School in Dogtown, received the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Award for her outstanding dedication to the Holy Childhood Association. The award was presented at the Holy Childhood Association Mass on October 1, 2009. Miss Battaglia is the third recipient of this honor, and the first lay principal to receive the award.
"This is a true honor for the entire school. Both the students and faculty at St. James have demonstrated a long history of support for the missions through the Holy Childhood Association," Miss Battaglia said. She went on to say that, "one of the biggest ways that we support the missions is through our annual Mission Carnival. The entire St. James community comes together for this event. The sole purpose of the carnival is to raise money for the missions."
The 12th Annual St. James Mission Carnival was held on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Students could 'dress down' for the day by purchasing a jeans pass. In addition, school parents arrived early in the day to cook a special lunch for the students. Afterwards, the entire student body had a fun time at the carnival. The event was a great success, with over $1425.00 being raised in one afternoon.
