'Title 1' is a federally funded program offering assistance to students in reading and mathematics. The 'Title 1' program at St. James is housed in a spacious classroom on the second floor. We have a full-time 'Title I' teacher who assists students in a small group setting - usually between 3 and 5 students at a time. The services of the 'Title 1' teacher are available to students in all grade levels.
Participation in the 'Title 1' program is based on several criteria. For grades K-3, participation is based on teacher recommendation. For grades 4-8, participation in the program is directed by standardized test (ITBS) scores.
The 'Title 1' benefits all students at St. James the Greater School. The program offers obvious advantages for students needing help in reading and math. They receive extra attention that is not necessarily available to them in a routine classroom setting. In addition, the students who do not participate in the program are afforded the opportunity to engage in enrichment programs while their classmates are at 'Title 1'. We are fortunate to have this program at our school.
