Resource/Learning Consultant

School Notes Site

Welcome, my name is Mrs. Beverly Richert. I am the Learning Consultant at St. James the Greater. I have been with St. James for eleven years. As a learning consultant, I wear many hats. I work with students, teachers, the administration, parents, and other professionals. As a team, we work together toward a common goal; to assist each student in realizing his or her full potential and achieve success.

First and foremost is the work I do with the students. I have my own classroom, which most students refer to as "Mrs. B's room". It is a resource room where students come to receive extra help with new material, reinforcement of previously learned material, extra time for tests, or just to have a quiet place to work. In my room I not only focus on academics, but I also focus on a student's belief in themself. I encourage students to take risks and challenge themselves. At St. James, we believe in building a strong foundation early. Therefore, the resource room is available to students in kindergarten and continues through eighth grade.

I also work daily with our dedicated teachers. Several times a day, I am in the classroom working with students alongside the teacher. In addition, I offer teachers support by providing strategies to use in the classroom with individual students. An Individaul Student Profile (ISP) is compiled and given to the teacher and the student's parents. The ISP provides specific strategies to fit the needs of the individual student. Finally, I assist the teachers by answering questions concerning student learning.

Another integral part of the team are the parents. I assist parents by answering questions concerning their child. I also have resource materials available for them to use ( list of tutors, books, articles, organizational materials etc.). Furthermore, I assist them by providing suggestions on how to help their child achieve success. I also provide guidance in finding the right professional when needed, and with any evaluations that their child may require.

Finally I work with the administration and professionals in related fields. I believe frequent and regular communication with the adiministration is vital to the success of the each student. I also work with other professionals (counselors, physicians, speakers, etc.) in efforts of providing the best environment and opportunities for each student's success. In addition, I offer four (4) free evening seminars each year to assist parents and professionals. The seminars cover various topics all related to assisting in the education and develpment of the individual.

In closing, I would like to again welcome you to St. James the Greater School and say that I truly love my profession! ! Each student brings something unique to the school. Although it is sometimes challenging, I look forward to working with my students every year. I believe the best honor I have is seeing a student succeed. I also have come to know that St. James the Greater is committed to providing the best education and learning evnironment for all of its students.
