Hello, my name is Angela Anderson, the religion teacher for grades 4-8. I have a BA in Psychology from Washington University, a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, and religion teacher certification from Paul VI Pontifical Institute. I grew up in St. Louis, spent two years in the Peace Corps in Botswana, traveled around the world, and worked for over a decade at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. My husband Jerry and I have three sons.
For 4th-6th grade religion, we will use the Christ our Life series from Loyola Press. Our priority in 4th grade will be understanding the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, and the law of Love as guides for Christian living. For 5th grade, our priority is an understanding of the Creed and the seven sacraments of the Church, with emphasis on the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. In 6th grade, our priority will be on Sacred Scripture, especially the Old Testament.
For 7th-8th grade, we will use the We Life Our Faith series from Sadlier. We will focus our study on being members of the Church, Church history, and the New Testament. We will also be using the Chosen program from Ascension Press to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
For all grades, my overall goal has three parts: that each student strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ; gain a greater appreciation and love for God's gift to us, the Church; and love those around us as Jesus would have us do. We will spend time in prayer and discussion and learn how to evangelize the world around us. I look forward to a great year with all my students!
