Hello, my name is Mrs. Cronin and I have the 6th grade homeroom. My class is modular and the subjects I teach include: Religion for 5th and 6th, Social Studies, Spelling/Vocabulary and Math for 6th-8th.
Religion curriculum is based on the Christ Our Life series. Religion for both 5th and 6th grade includes a combination of reading and discussions based on scripture from the Old Testament. Activities are designed to encourage critical thinking and opportunities to reflect on character and faith.
Social Studies for 6th grade explores ancient civilizations using the textbook, Adventures in World History. We study geography, economics and cultural ideas of the past and how they pertain to the present.
Spelling and Vocabulary class for 6th grade is combined. The objective is to give an opportunity for students to expand vocabulary in a meaningful and applicable manner.
We have activities and workbooks designed to challenge students to better their communication skills.
The math curriculum has a spiral approach to learning. The Saxon Math series allows all types of learners to grasp concepts. The series is designed to give students opportunities for success through the use of problem sets and activities.
As a group, 6th and 7th grades have an opportunity to go to a leadership camp. This gives students a chance to build character through team-building activities. Also, we provide a variety of independent learning activities including reading awards.
I have been teaching at St. James for six years. Last May, I received my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis on math curriculum. I have continued to build my knowledge of Catholicism through yearly participation in Paul the IV classes.
I value programs like Top Twenty and other professional growth experiences that St. James provides. These experiences give me the ability to provide opportunities to my students that facilitate their academic success and build character.
